Our comprehensive deer management process is designed to address deer population pressures in a humane and ecologically sound manner. Unmanaged populations can lead to habitat degradation, agricultural damage, and an increased risk of vehicle collisions. To mitigate these impacts, we follow a structured approach:

Assessment and Planning

We begin with a thorough assessment of deer populations and their impact on the local ecosystem. This includes field surveys and data analysis to develop an effective, site-specific management plan.

Implementation

Our deer managers implement the agreed management plan using appropriate techniques to deliver safe, humane, and effective population management. This may include controlled culling, where selected animals are removed in accordance with best practice, prioritising safety, accuracy, and animal welfare.
Where appropriate, we can also provide advice on deer fencing and recommend experienced contractors.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Following implementation, we continue to monitor the outcomes of management activities. Ongoing evaluation allows us to refine approaches as required and helps ensure long-term ecological balance is achieved and maintained.

Humane Culling Practices

Animal welfare underpins all our work. Our selective culling practices are designed to be swift and effective, minimising stress and avoiding unnecessary suffering. We adhere to established best-practice guidance and make use of appropriate technology to ensure accuracy and consistency. Our deer managers are highly trained and operate with respect for both wildlife and the wider environment.

Processing into a Sustainable Food Source

Deer taken as part of management activities are treated as a valuable and sustainable food resource. We ensure this is done responsibly and in accordance with food hygiene regulations:

Inspection and Dressing: Each deer is inspected and dressed promptly after shooting to preserve meat quality and maintain high hygiene standards.

Transportation and Processing: Carcasses are transported in temperature-controlled conditions to our dedicated larder facility, where processing is carried out to strict quality and safety standards.

Sustainable Use: We aim to utilise as much of each animal as possible. Venison is supplied to approved game dealers or, where permitted, prepared for direct sale as a nutritious, low-fat, high-protein food source.
